Various and Sundry Update-y Type Things

Let's see . . . what have I been up to for the past few days?

Well, there are a variety of updates on things I've mentioned earlier. We now have pop-tarts. Several varieties. And Connor loves them. He ate at least three this afternoon before I realised what he was doing and made him stop. ::grin:: So, I suppose the obsession is not likely to fade anytime soon. (He was obsessed with Extreme Pudding Sticks for a while until he actually tried one and wasn't impressed). But he actually likes the pop-tarts. Oh well. I suppose there are worse things he could like . . . like, erm . . . coke-a-cola. Yeah, that would be worse. Or just eating spoonfuls of sugar. Yeah. That would be really bad. Pop-tarts are downright healthy by comparison. ::facepalms::

The duvet cover is very nearly finished! All I have left to do is hem the one unfinished edge, and install the snaps. Whoo HOO! It looks great on the bed . . . and (fairly important) the duvet actually fits inside it and lays properly! ::grin:: (I was a bit concerned because the queen sheet I used as a backing was just a wee bit smaller than the duvet, and then you have to take into account the seams . . . but it turned out just fine). It's so purty, in fact, that I took PICTURES! ::grin::

Duvet Cover

The colours in the photo are actually pretty close to the way they really look (at least they look right on my monitor, although the dark purple is a bit warmer than it appears in the photo), especially the ones in the foreground of the picture (at the back, some of the colours are distorted).

And here is a close up of the fabby brocade dragon. There are also phoenixes (sp?) on some of the squares (In fact the one on the corner in the foreground of the photo is a phoenix):

And, for the heck of it, here's my pretty new lamp, which I searched all over town to find (I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a lamp I liked. And I didn't really *love* this one when I bought it, but now I do, and it's perfect in my room):

The rest of the room is trashed right now (because I had to move furniture a bit to pull out my serger), but once I've got it all tidy again, maybe I'll post a picture of the "finished product." Although I still need to get new things up on the walls. Oh! Which reminds me . . . I've ordered something I think is really cool . . . this lithograph, which the artist is going to hand colour for me (with an emphasis on greens and purples so it will match my bedroom decor):

Here, there definitely Be Dragons. ::grin::

Although . . . I did have a bit of a moment today when I realised that I really don't *need* a duvet on the bed right now, because, erm, it's JULY and it's REALLY HOT. But hey! I'm flexible and oh-so-clever, and I figured out that I can just take the duvet *out* and use it as a bedspread until winter! ::is so impressed with own brilliance:: :P

Oh . . and here's PROOF of the pop-tart lurve! "Look, Mummy! I've had a LOT OF SUGAR today!" ::grin::

Since I had the camera out today, I took it along to swim lessons, as well . . .

Happy Connor with his instructor:

Front floats:

JUMP!

Kick, kick, kick!

In other news, I had a great chat on the telephone with gail_b (see! I do talk on the phone! I don't always let the machine answer and laugh! ::grin::) . . . we talked about PLANS FOR NEXT WEEK! WHOO HOO!!!!! Which now include trips to Haight-Ashbury *and* Venice Beach. We're going to try to hit the very grooviest spots. ::grin::

Oh - and Gail, you know that chicken and leek pie I cooked while I was on the phone with you? You know, as in, I actually *cooked* a proper meal??? Well, because we were on the phone, Kevin couldn't get through when he tried to call to see if I'd had anything planned for dinner, so he stopped and got KFC on the way home. Ack! Hee hee hee. But here's the really *really* cool thing . . .

When I asked Connor which he'd rather have - the chicken pie or KFC chicken - he chose THE PIE!!!!!!! ::grin:: Isn't he the coolest kid evah? I really expected him to ask for the take-away, instead of some stinky old homemade pie. But he wanted the pie! ::happy dance:: Okay, maybe I'm a bit lame for being so happy about this, but for some reason it really meant a lot to me that he chose the dinner I cooked over the KFC. I mean, this is a kid who *lives* for Burger King. He likes to eat out more than I do. (Well, maybe not, but it's close). And he asked for my chicken pie! ::still dancing::

Well, it's late now. And I think I'll go to bed and get started on The Reptile Room.

Oh, wait a sec. While I'm here, I might as well post these

Click here to take the M*A*S*H quiz!

Does this fit me? I honestly don't remember. It's been years and years since I saw that show. ::grin::

But I'm pretty sure this next one *doesn't* fit me . . . I consider myself to be fairly anti-social, after all. O_o Then again, I am sort of good about hooking people up (friends, not match-making) . . . so maybe I am a bit of a hub. (That sounds sort of . . . well, icky, doesn't it. To be sort of a hub) ::grin::.

Okay. Now, I'm going to bed.

*gasp!*
That is GORGEOUS! I'm green! I want one!

My husband loves phoenixes and has a tattoo of one on his shoulder blade.

I love griffens, but I've yet to find a really good drawing/painting of one I'd use. If you find one please forward!

That child is going to be running around on a sugar high for a while, you know that right? ;)

Re: *gasp!*
Hee! Thanks. It was actually really easy to make, if you have access to a sewing machine. Let me know if you want some instructions/advice. :-)

As for griffins, funnily enough, the place from which I ordered my dragon lithograph is called "Griffin's Grove" . . . and they do have some artwork you might like. There's some other cool stuff there, as well. I love the plates - am thinking about getting one of each, if I could think of a place to display them.

Re: *gasp!*
Wow I'm impressed. I've not made that sort of thing. Thanks to one of my aunts (r.i.p.) and an elderly lady that I spent one Christmas vacation with while my mother cared for her, I learned to crochet. I've also picked up things like latch-hook, regular sewing/mending, cross-stitching, and embroidery learned from my mother. I don't have a sewing machine. Money's been tight and at the moment the husband's just gotten a job and we're more worried about actually getting furniture instead of using the sofa someone left behind in this apt and the sofa from, like, the 70s we grabbed from a couple of houses down when someone put it out with a "Free" sign on it. *sigh* It's been a rough year...

I love the duvet cover! It's gorgeous.

When are you and gail_b going to be in OC? Spiderman 2 is showing in Imax at Irvine, but PoA has one showing at 4:30 this weekend (not sure about next weekend) - maybe we can go see that all together and then get cheesecake?

Hee! Okay, as of yesterday, our plan seems to be that we're going to drive down on Thursday, go to Venice Beach on Friday, visit the Hare Krishna Temple in L.A. on Saturday morning, and then head to OC for the afternoon/evening. What Gail wants to do is go see PoA (in costume - she's such a freak ::grin::), and then all just hang out somewhere.

The only thing I'm not sure about is what I'm gonna do with Connor during the movie . . . although he might be willing to come along and see it with us. Or maybe he can stay with Robin's husband or something. I'll work something out, I'm sure.

Are you busy on Friday? Wanna bring the girls and come to Venice Beach with us?

Or just eating spoonfuls of sugar. Yeah. That would be really bad.

But a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down! *giggle*

Wow, the duvet cover is GORGEOUS! And the lamp too!

I was actually going to ask the same thing as Bekki - when will you & Gail be down in OC?

Spoonfuls of sugar make the Connor go BOUNCE! ::grin::

Here's (almost) the same response I gave to Bekki (I'm too lazy to type out an original one! ::grin::)

OOh, I love the duvet too and am so impressed that (a) you made it and (b) you did it so fast. Yet again you prove yourself to be a woman of way too many talents.
