Carta Marina Red Dragon

A Busy Day on the Computer

I spent a lot of time at my computer today, but in spite of the fact that I played some Scrabble (and am getting my BUTT kicked), and some Sudoku (ah! This, I can do), I managed to finish two rather large projects. This has resulted in a lovely sense of accomplishment.

First, I redid my LJ layout again (yes, I know I just redid it yesterday; it's completely redone again now, though). I've got a map layout again (it's been a long time since I've had one of those - how many of you can even remember the previous ones?), and I'm mostly happy with it. I love the map itself; it's called the Carta Marina, and was created in the 16th century by a Swedish diplomat. It's gorgeous, and has loads of lovely monsters all over the place. In addition to the Flickr feed and the animated headline with recent book titles (which I added yesterday), I've now got an image map instead of a boring old links list. It was actually really easy to create (although I had to do it on K's Windows-based computer. Bah humbug). So, new layout. YAY! There are still a few things I'd like to do - an image map banner, for example - and I wish I could get more of the map to show, specifically in the spaces between the entries. (This layout doesn't seem to support a transparency there, though, without having the sidebar background disappear as well. Another Bah humbug). Plus, I'm thinking I'd like to change the shape of it, overall (if that makes no sense, it's probably because I'm not even sure what I mean, except to acknowledge that maybe Flexible Squares isn't the right place to start). And I NEED an "edit" button on my recent entries page. Having to go to the entry itself is LAMELAMELAME. So, there are still things to tweak, but so far, so good.

Second, I FINALLY updated my birding website with some of the photos I took in Australia (it only took me TWO YEARS to get the photos up *facepalms*). There is still stuff I need to update - like my overall life list - but the website is in much better shape now. Poor neglected thing. That one has been on my "to do" list for ages and ages, and it feels REALLY good to be able to check it off. :) (Maybe next I'll even manage to post the final LJ entry about the trip; after you asked me about it, kvratties, I discovered I never did post about that last week we were there. I'll pull the info out of the photo album and put together an entry. Again, sometime soon, whatever *that* means. I'm sure it won't take me another two years, though). :D :D :D

In non-computer news, I am now in possession of some guitar tab books with baroque and classical music. So, I am going to attempt some Bach and Mozart (among others) on the guitar. I'm having a lot of fun playing, although Connor refuses to practice AT ALL. *sigh* I might have some other music-related news soon, although I'm not going to say what just yet. *loves being cryptic*

Oh, and speaking of Connor, I want to say thanks to everyone who commented to my post yesterday. Somehow, knowing that he's not the only person who does this makes me feel better about the whole thing. Today we came to an agreement. He can hum and sing and I won't complain or ask him to stop (although I might ask him to lower the volume a bit), and in return, he agrees not to make fart noises. He hasn't entirely kept up his part of the bargain; I'm keeping up mine, though. Happily, it's not driving me as batty now. Maybe I just needed to accept that this is the current reality and get on with things, eh? Anyhow, thanks for all your supportive comments. They really helped. :)

I guess that's enough for now. I have this feeling there was something else I wanted to add, but I can't remember what just now. So, it's off to bed for me. Well, maybe I'll play one more game of Sudoku first. :)
