Project 365, Day 57 - Preemie Blanket and Hat

On Saturday, I finished these two crocheted items: blanket and hat for a premature baby (I'll be donating these to a local hospital once I've finished a few more). They're stunningly modeled by the lovely Andromeda (who was a hit in a previous photo, so I brought her back for an encore).

Both the blanket and the hat are from patterns that I created myself. Not that there aren't already a million and two patterns out there for baby items, but when I was looking at small blanket patterns, I couldn't find one I really liked, so I decided to come up with one of my own. Then, it seemed silly not to work up a hat to match. They're done with what I guess is the crochet equivalent of the seed stich - alternating single and double crochets, to create a bumpy sort of fabric. I'm going to write out the pattern and post it to Ravelry as soon as I've worked out all the details, so it will be available if anyone else would like to try it.

Oh, and speaking of Ravelry . . . yeah. If you knit or crochet, and you don't already know about this site CLICK HERE NOW! It's a wonderful site - one where I've been spending *coughcough* kind of a lot of time lately. It's a really great way to keep track of projects and find new patterns and all sorts of other cool stuff. (Hat tip tmkr).

If you're not into yarn crafts, no need to feel left out. I found another, surprisingly similar site dedicated to growing things. So, if you're a gardener, you might want to check out MyFolia (I'm HereBeDragons there, too). I don't plan on spending a lot of time there anytime soon - right now, I'm not interested in gardening, since I'll be moving out of this house in the next couple of months. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to find a place with some garden space so I can do that in the future.

Day 58 - Narchi, the Turtle

Another crochet project finished over the weekend. This is my first ever amigurumi animal, and I think he turned out super cute. I gave him to Connor as a little surprise, and Connor named him Narchi. It's very sweet - Connor's been carrying him around, and taking him to cuddle at night. It's hard to tell scale from the photo, but Narchi is very small - about five inches long, nose to tail. I've already started my second amigurumi (one of my own design). Probably there will be a picture when it's finished. ;)

Day 59 - Yarn

Day 59 - Yarn, originally uploaded by Here Be Dragons.

On Saturday, I broke a promise. This photo shows the evidence of my "crime."

I had promised myself I wouldn't buy any new yarn unless I already had a project in mind for it. But when I saw these gorgeous yarns (all made by the Italian company Di.Ve`), I couldn't resist. No, I don't know what I'm going to do with them, but they sure are pretty. :D

Project 365, Day 60 - Another DIY Project

Day 60, which means I've been doing 365 for two months now. One sixth of the way through. I'm really enjoying it so far, and I'm still finding subjects for photos, so the fact that I still have 10 months to go really doesn't seem that daunting. (Ask me again in November, and we'll see how I'm feeling then). :D

In honor of this "milestone," I'm going to have a little contest. Today's photo shows some things I bought today at the fabric store and the hardware store. Yes, there's another DIY project in the making, this time with no instructions or patterns - I'm just making it up as I go.

Can you guess what I'm going to make?

The first person who comments with the correct answer will win a special prize, something I'll crochet or knit just for you! If no one guesses correctly, I'll pick the answer which made me laugh the most, and that will be the winner. (So feel free to make a legitimate guess, along with a humorous one, so you can maximize your chances). I'll reveal the answer in a few days - after I've actually built the thing.

Good luck!

ETA: If you stumbled upon this entry, but don't have a LiveJournal, you're welcome to play - just make sure to include in your comment some way that I could reach you if end up winning the prize.
