Help Me Fill Up My Map!

About a week ago, I hit a fairly big BookCrossing milestone - I made my 500th wild release!!! And yes, I do mean WILD release - I don't make release notes when I've mailed a book to someone, or handed it to a friend at the meetup. So, those 500 books were all genuinely released into the wild. My 500th book was "Random Acts of Kindness" (seemed appropriate), which I released at the same post office where I made my very first release more than two years ago.

Well, reaching that goal left me with an empty space over at 43 Things, so I decided to create another BC-related goal. On my profile, I have a map of U.S. states to which books of mine have traveled. So far, my books have reached 36 of the 50 U.S. states. So, my new goal? To get books to the remaining 14. And here's where the fun starts . . . you might be able to help me fill in my map (and get a free book in the process)!

I still need to get books to the following states:

Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming. Oh, plus Washington, D.C.

Here's how to play:

If you live in one of the states listed above, LUCKY YOU! Just be the first from your state to contact me with a request, and I'll send you a book. You can go about this one of two ways. First, you can go to my BookCrossing bookshelf, and look at the books I've got listed as "Available" or "Reserved," and choose one of the titles. Then e-mail me your choice, along with your mailing address, and I'll send you the book. Or, if you don't feel like looking at the list, just let me know what sorts of books you like, and I'll surprise you with something I think you'll enjoy.

If you're thinking, "Darn it! But I don't live in one of those states," this could be your chance to make a friend's day. If you have a friend living in one of those states, follow the instructions above - choose a book for your friend, or give me some preferred genres, and I'll send a book to your friend. (Or, I could send the book to you, for you to forward, if you feel more comfortable keeping the friend's address private).

Now, I realize that so far this is pretty U.S. centric, but never fear! I'd also love to get books to as many foreign countries as possible, but in this case, it's a lot easier for me to list the countries to which I have sent books, rather than those to which I need to send books. So, if you live in a country which is NOT listed below, LUCKY YOU! :D Go ahead and choose a book and send me your address, and I'll put it in the post to you!

I've already sent books to: Australia, Canada, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, India, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Also, as with the U.S. challenge, if you have a friend living in a "qualifying" country, I'll be happy to send that person a book if you give me the necessary information.

And finally (well almost finally - there are a few "rules" which I'll add below) - I realize that most of you live in places where I've already sent books, and so don't "qualify" for the game. Which hardly seems fair, does it? So . . . if you look at my list and see a book that you REALLY REALLY want, let me know, and I'll be happy to send it to you, if someone's not already claimed it. I only ask that, in this case, please only ask me to send something that's not easy to get where you live - in other words, don't ask for bestsellers, or things that you can get at your local bookstore or library. "Memoirs of a Geisha," for example. But I do have some more obscure books on my list, so if you see one that you'd love to have, let me know.

Now, for the few guidelines:

You can e-mail me with your requests at: Love2_sing at mac dot com

My BookCrossing bookshelf is located at:

http://bookcrossing.com/mybookshelf/herebedragons/referral

And, when choosing books, remember to look at both the "Available" and "Reserved" lists . . . BUT (This is Important!) make sure that if you're interested in a book, that it's status as available or reserved was set by ME, and not by another BookCrossing member. There are lots of books listed there that are no longer in my possession, but you can tell by looking carefully in whose hands the book currently resides.

Also, you do NOT have to be a member of BookCrossing to play, but if you are not registered at the site, I do ask that you promise to make a journal entry for the book after you receive it. There will be something called a "BCID number," either inside the front cover or on the title page of the book. This is how I'll be keeping track of which books end up where, so I'll need you to make an entry in order to claim the state for my list! You can do this anonymously, if you prefer not to join. (Although, it is free and easy and a lot of fun to join the site, so you might just want to go ahead and do it anyway). :)

So, go have a look at my bookshelf, and let your friends know about this, if they live in any of the places to which I'd LOVE to send some books. I'm in the process of registering a bunch of books, so if you don't see anything you like right now, check back in a day or two and maybe there will be something new that will spark your interest. :)

And thanks in advance for helping me reach this goal! :)
