BookCrossing Wild Catches

Since so many of the "catches" listed for me on my BookCrossing profile page are books I've sent to people, I've decided to keep a separate list of my honest-to-goodness Wild Catches. I used to keep this list on my BC profile, but it's getting a bit long, so I thought I'd move it to my LJ, and have a link at BC. Heh. Yeah, when I looked at the list myself, and compared to the number of books I've released, I AM very pleased with the ratio. (I've released 608 books in the wild, so 69 wild catches is . . . oh heck, MATH . . . not quite 9 percent).

I think the place I've had the best success was when I've sent books for K to release in the break room at his office. I probably had at least a quarter of the books I released there "caught" (and by people that K didn't know. He would just leave them, and they'd disappear. He wasn't giving them away). I've had a few catches at train stations (even a couple on the actual trains). Other than that, I'd say that tourist traps get the best response. I leave books at places like Pier 39 in San Francisco, and I also like to drop books when I, myself am on vacation. A lot of those seem to get caught.

Probably my lowest area of productivity is the books I've donated to the library. A good chunk of my wild releases went to the library, and I think they turn around and sell most of them in their library sale. Of the couple of hundred I've donated, I think I've had a total of two journal entries. Still, I like to donate to the library, especially if they're specialty (non-fiction) books that aren't good choices for wild releasing.

This makes me feel like going out and doing a bunch more wild releases! :)
