Australian Friends: Can You ID This Tree?

Rainbow Lorikeets in Australian Tree
Rainbow Lorikeets in Australian Tree
Can anyone help me identify this tree? I took this photo in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, in May, 2005. Thanks in advance!

I'd make a guess that it would be an Arecaceae pritchardia [something] or similar.

Looks like a relative of the date palm. The birds are in the stems that once held the fruit. They spout at the top of the trunk, right before the leaves start. The leaves are not in the picture.

Cool picture!

Yep, it's a palm - those sproutey things bear little reddish-brown type berries.

Have a fair few of those trees in my home's backyard in Cairns

Regardless of what it truly is, to me it looks like a lovely crystal-drop tree. :) Almost chandelier-like.

Incredible. :)

The busy-body strikes again!
I figured the best way was to go to the source. I emailed the Adelaide Botanic Gardens with your picture attached with the message:
Could someone there identify this tree? It was taken by a friend when visiting your gardens.

This evening I received the following:

This is Achontophoenix cunninghamiana the Bangalow Palm, an Australian plam[sic] from Queensland and New South Wales.
The palms were flowering and the lorikeets were feeding on nectar among the inflorescences.
These palms are next to a bridge and one of them is clearly labelled[sic].

I hope this helps!

Awesome! Thanks so much for sending that e-mail; I don't know why I didn't think of doing that. This is exactly the information I needed. :)
