A Busy Day on the Computer

I spent a lot of time at my computer today, but in spite of the fact that I played some Scrabble (and am getting my BUTT kicked), and some Sudoku (ah! This, I can do), I managed to finish two rather large projects. This has resulted in a lovely sense of accomplishment.

First, I redid my LJ layout again (yes, I know I just redid it yesterday; it's completely redone again now, though). I've got a map layout again (it's been a long time since I've had one of those - how many of you can even remember the previous ones?), and I'm mostly happy with it. I love the map itself; it's called the Carta Marina, and was created in the 16th century by a Swedish diplomat. It's gorgeous, and has loads of lovely monsters all over the place. In addition to the Flickr feed and the animated headline with recent book titles (which I added yesterday), I've now got an image map instead of a boring old links list. It was actually really easy to create (although I had to do it on K's Windows-based computer. Bah humbug). So, new layout. YAY! There are still a few things I'd like to do - an image map banner, for example - and I wish I could get more of the map to show, specifically in the spaces between the entries. (This layout doesn't seem to support a transparency there, though, without having the sidebar background disappear as well. Another Bah humbug). Plus, I'm thinking I'd like to change the shape of it, overall (if that makes no sense, it's probably because I'm not even sure what I mean, except to acknowledge that maybe Flexible Squares isn't the right place to start). And I NEED an "edit" button on my recent entries page. Having to go to the entry itself is LAMELAMELAME. So, there are still things to tweak, but so far, so good.

Second, I FINALLY updated my birding website with some of the photos I took in Australia (it only took me TWO YEARS to get the photos up *facepalms*). There is still stuff I need to update - like my overall life list - but the website is in much better shape now. Poor neglected thing. That one has been on my "to do" list for ages and ages, and it feels REALLY good to be able to check it off. :) (Maybe next I'll even manage to post the final LJ entry about the trip; after you asked me about it, kvratties, I discovered I never did post about that last week we were there. I'll pull the info out of the photo album and put together an entry. Again, sometime soon, whatever *that* means. I'm sure it won't take me another two years, though). :D :D :D

In non-computer news, I am now in possession of some guitar tab books with baroque and classical music. So, I am going to attempt some Bach and Mozart (among others) on the guitar. I'm having a lot of fun playing, although Connor refuses to practice AT ALL. *sigh* I might have some other music-related news soon, although I'm not going to say what just yet. *loves being cryptic*

Oh, and speaking of Connor, I want to say thanks to everyone who commented to my post yesterday. Somehow, knowing that he's not the only person who does this makes me feel better about the whole thing. Today we came to an agreement. He can hum and sing and I won't complain or ask him to stop (although I might ask him to lower the volume a bit), and in return, he agrees not to make fart noises. He hasn't entirely kept up his part of the bargain; I'm keeping up mine, though. Happily, it's not driving me as batty now. Maybe I just needed to accept that this is the current reality and get on with things, eh? Anyhow, thanks for all your supportive comments. They really helped. :)

I guess that's enough for now. I have this feeling there was something else I wanted to add, but I can't remember what just now. So, it's off to bed for me. Well, maybe I'll play one more game of Sudoku first. :)

Ha ha ha ha! You WIN!!!!!! :D

I actually thought about making a contest to see if anyone would spot him, but then I forgot. Isn't he cute, though? And as a bird ancestor, surely he belongs there, right?

:D :D :D

Well, we, as adults (speak for yourself W!), go through phases. I know mine goes through 2-3 of them a day. So, this too shall pass. :) And, acceptance is great...until it's time to go all crazy on their behinds!!! LOL

Carta Marina
I have it as well! A lovely attendee of Accio, Margareta Lindgren - in her 70s, Scandinavian and seriously into hippogriffs, spent a lot of time working on Carta Marina, sent me a large b/w version and I have it framed and displayed on the landing. Wish it was colour though - it's one of the most beautiful maps ever.

various contradictory ideas
You left such a caring, helpful message on my "wah, I'm tired" post that I shouldn't express what I'm thinking about your currenting parenting woe. But I will anyway:

I am so glad we had a girl.

heeheeheeheeheeheeheeheehee Seriously, your deal sounds good (I suppose now you need an agreement about what happens if either of you doesn't stick to it), and I'd also second the person who suggested just leaving the room if possible when it's driving you nuts. Really he's the one who should leave the room, and hell, maybe he wants you to leave the room, but it's better for you to go get some peace and quiet than to put up with that.

He doesn't have his own room there, does he? Maybe he's trying to expand his personal space. Is there a way to establish a "music room"? No one wants to listen to someone else practice an instrument or sing the same tune over and over, so anyone who wants to do either should go in the designated room and shut the door.

Also, he'd probably be more attentive to peers than to you. Maybe when he has more friends in the area and is spending time with people who will think he's a weenie if he keeps doing that, he'll quit. Or maybe he'll only quit around them, and keep it up around his mother . . .

Oh, and tell him the TV is broken. Stewie sounds like the kind of person you'd never let him play with because he's such a Bad Influence. (Who said TV invites people into our living rooms we wouldn't have in the house?)

Love the map--and I thought I recognized it from Catherine's place!

This layout is gorgeous! Love it! By the way, if I got unfriended by accident, could you please add me back? I miss my Connor stories! :)
