Try FlyLady for 43 Days

I’m going to try using the FlyLady system and see how it works. I tried it once before, about a year ago (maybe more), but I just wasn’t ready. That house was too overwhelming. Here, for the first time in ages, I feel like I’m really close to getting control over my messy house, and maybe FlyLady can help me. So, I’m going to follow the program for 43 days, and see how it works.

I’ve already started. I signed up for her notices, and my sink is SHINY! (I even used dental floss. No kidding). So, I guess I’m off to a good start. That makes today, September 7, Day 1.

Good luck! I'm trying to be relaxed instead of perfectionistic about it, and taking the bits of the advice that work for me out of it. It's actually teaching me to skim and delete email more efficiently too, because not all of the emails are relevant to me. (For example, the ones about kids, or just stuff that doesn't do it for me.) The other thing I've been trying to do, which goes hand in hand with this, is to realise that no one person has all the answers and no matter how helpful a system or website or person is, it's okay to need to tweak it to make it work for me.

By the way, I confused myself at the beginning and thought I had to do everything on the emails, but I've realised that I'm supposed to be easing myself into it with the baby steps. If you want to stick with it, I'd recommend only committing to do the baby steps every day and gradually building up to committing to the email tasks as the basic habits get easier.

I (like you, I think!) am a terrible perfectionist and it just contributes to mess and chaos around me because I avoid doing anything unless I have ages (and motivation) to do it perfectly. After the initial clean, I've been working on shining my sink not so perfectly to get over this. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to cheer you on, and to mention that I'm really getting something worthwhile out of it, along with some of the advice I've been getting from Lifehacker.com and ZenHabits. I've changed a lot of my habits and I've had a much needed self-esteem boost from it over the past three months. If you want to ever want to chat about stuff that you have a mental block getting past, or cool new ways to do things you've discovered, I'd LOVE to hear it!

Are we going to get a daily update of what particular non-cleaning household item you used to clean a given part of the apartment? I can't wait....on pins and needles....don't make me weep with joy now....Oooooh, I'm just giddy! :) (Hey, it's early here!)

At first I thought the FlyLady system was either some type of diet or it was a musical exercise program (not that you need it, but it sounded like, "Yes, be one of the first 25 callers to get the 18-disc set of the FlyLady system for 6 easy payments of $99.95 and we'll send an special 3 disc set with 47 songs of Hip-Hop Beethoven as a special gift. Why, you'll be sweating to the REALLY Oldies in no time!") ;)

Well, this morning I did fashion a scrubbing pad out of nose hairs which I'd carefully braided together . . . worked great! You should try it sometime. ;)

Hip-hop Beethoven, eh? Well, now that I've decided he's TEH SEXEH, maybe I'd actually order that. :D

"fashion a scrubbing pad out of nose hairs"

Yes, I have practical experience with that. Have you tried using a gallon of ear wax to polish your car yet?
