Day 13 - Self-portrait

Day 13 - Self-portrait, originally uploaded by Here Be Dragons.

I chose this from a number of self-portraits I took today. (I did try to get a few more shots of my tattoos, but nothing that was quite the way I wanted it; I'll keep trying).

For some reason, this shot reminds me of a sea captain's wife, looking out over the water waiting for her husband to return home. Except for the part where there's no ocean in the photo. :D I liked it, though.

ETA: Forget the sea captain. This is Catherine de Medici asking herself, "Hmm, was that one part aresenic to two parts nightshade, or the other way around?" (Courtesy of the brilliant mind of edda). :)

Bwahahahaha!

And no sea captain. And no wife. But other than that, you're right!

Actually, I'm really enjoying your photographs.

Thanks! :)

And I think I'm okay, from a photographic standpoint, with the lack of the sea captain*. If he were at home, I wouldn't be waiting, would I? But Amy has a good point about the off-the-shoulder thing . . .

*giggles*

*I wouldn't mind having an actual sea captain, if a sexy one were to show up here. Maybe with a name like Picard (I guess spaceship captain would be okay, too). ;)

I think she's keeping pretty busy while she waits, if you get my drift. Maybe it's that sexy off-the-shoulder thing she's got going on, but I think the retired second mate has been visiting most afternoons.

:-P

Oh, LOL! You found out my secret! I'm not waiting for the captain, I'm waiting for sexy retired second mate. Well, maybe I am watching for the captain, just to make sure he doesn't turn up at home unexpectedly?

I only wish I were having this much fun in real life. ;) (I might be, soon . . . not ready to talk about that here just yet, though . . . but I might be convinced to talk about it sometime over dinner - or lunch, or whatever - in San Mateo). ;) I still need to try and find the right seaweed for my salad, come to think of it. (And wow, that sounds a bit off-color with the sea captain talk, doesn't it? I'm really talking about kelp, though). :D

Kelp, eh? We'll be around this weekend, although we have to go car shopping on Saturday and to church on Sunday.

This weekend won't work for me . . . I have something going on Sunday, and Connor has an event at school on Saturday. Um, wait a sec. There's no reason Kevin can't take Connor on Saturday . . . what time do you think you'll be home from car shopping? Do you want to haul your daughter around car shopping with you, or do you want me to come early so you and A could go out without the Mookeleh? And then we can have dim sum or Sushi Sam's or something for dinner?

Hmm. I dunno. I just know we have to go car shopping because our car died. That's as far as we've gotten in our planning. Let's talk.

Saturday night is the Seder at church. (I've been a UU long enough that that causes barely a ripple of cognitive dissonance.) Next Saturday? Oh, damn, that doesn't work for us either. Fret fret.

Urgh! Okay . . . well, I sent an e-mail, so I'm sure we can put something on the calendar in the not-too-distant future. :)

1.) Awesome, awesome photo.

2.) I see Catherine de Medici asking herself, "Hmm, was that one part aresenic to two parts nightshade, or the other way around?"

Oh! I like your backstory MUCH better than the "waiting for sea captain."

I'm stealing it, in fact. I hope you don't mind. :D

(Oh, and thanks)! :)

OOh, I like this picture - you look very serene. Maybe you're thinking happy thoughts for when your sea captain comes home and you can have some much needed time ... ;)

Hee . . . thanks! Interesting that you said serene. I'm glad to hear that. Because, as you might guess, taking that photo was anything but serene. Having to set up the camera, and then put it on the timer, and hurry into a pose. I'm glad that I'm able to get some other emotion through except, "HURRY UP AND POSE, DAMN IT!" :)

I'll go for the sea captain's wife option, but I think you have to add that it's bedtime or something because you're half-undressed. ;)

Well, when your man's been away at sea, honestly who cares what time of day it is, right?

Gorgeous pic, Wendy!

And I like both backstories. In honor of the first though, the first verse of my song about that:

There's a ship that's at dock in the harbour,
And her name is
The Wind on the Sea.
The sailors all call her a lady,
But a widow she'll make out of me.
She's trim and she's yare, and tonight she sails far,
Bound for distant lands I'll never see,
Yet my soul ever knows, my heart goes where she goes,
For my husband her captain shall be.
Wind on the Sea, carry my love to me.

Heh.

Thanks! :)
