Everybody Loves Megalodon?

Hee . . . I just noticed something sort of odd. I was poking around my Flickr account, and clicked the "Popular" tag, which shows how many times some of my photos had been viewed. Nothing too strange here . . . most of my photos have been viewed about a dozen times; some less than that, a few significantly more (like, maybe 40 views).

Except this one photo:

Connor's favorite shark, Megalodon

This photo, of Connor with a Megalodon at some museum we visited on our cross-country trip, has been viewed 1321 times. What the heck? Why on earth has this one photo gotten so many hits? Does everyone just really love Megalodon? :P

ETA: Mystery solved! (Thanks, syrinxkat). Apparently, that photo (and others) shows up in Yahoo's image search function. I had no idea my photos would show up in search engine searches, but I think it's way cool that they do. :D

Somebody's hit-stalking you?

But I don't think one person could do that . . . I think Flickr only counts unique page views. (Not sure how it does that, though). It's just very weird! :D

(Also, I adore that icon).

Yes, everyone does love the Megalodon. Where ya been? :)
Apr. 18th, 2008 05:52 pm (UTC)
Well, I know that I like Megalodon . . . and of course Connor loves Megalodon. But I didn't realize the rest of the world was cool enough to share our geeky love for this freakishly large and terrifying (and thankfully, extinct) eating machine. Srsly. I thought most people liked, you know, fluffy bunny rabbits and stuff. ;)

Uh, are you saying I'm a girl? ;)

If the pink, fluffy bunny slippers fit . . .

*giggles and runs for cover*

Ok, where'd ya hide the camera?

And they're not pink. They're fuchsia...which, I must say, is WAY less girly than pink!!!
Apr. 18th, 2008 08:12 pm (UTC)
Okay . . . fair enough. The color balance must be off on my spy-cam. Fuchsia is an EXTREMELY manly color. ;)

Better. Now I won't have to moon your cam!!!

*And nobody wants to see that...well...except the ones on the Yahoo image pages* :P

Mooning the spy cam! OH NOES!!!!!!

(Besides, you know I don't have that cam there to watch you. I only have it so I can keep up with young D, since you've been pretty negligent lately about sending pictures of that gorgeous boy of yours).

Sent ya a few to the mac.com email address...think that's right.....

Check your flickr stats - you can see, generally, who's been linking to you. I bet that shot ranks high on a google search or something :)

I'm such a stats junkie, I check it almost daily. I love seeing where my page views are coming from!
Apr. 18th, 2008 06:13 pm (UTC)
Oh, cool! I'd never been to my stats page before, so right now it's crunching the numbers for me - it told me to come back tomorrow. I'll probably become a junkie, too. :P
Apr. 18th, 2008 06:53 pm (UTC)
Okay, so the stats page is the coolest thing EVER! :D

Also . . . amazingly, that photo is getting hits through Yahoo's image search. In fact, about half of all the hits I've had for my photos came through Yahoo image search. I didn't even know my photos would turn up in Yahoo image search! That's totally cool.

Megalodon sort of looks like he's wearing dentures. I would certainly go back for second looks based on that.

Actually, that's the EXACT look my granny had when trying to make sure her denture fit correctly. And then we'd have iced tea and put puzzles together. Ah, youth.
Apr. 18th, 2008 06:38 pm (UTC)
OMG can you imagine being Meg's dentist? (Or orthodontist, or whomever-the-hell makes dentures for people)? Yeah, like I want to stick a little mirror and flashlight in THAT mouth.

LOL about granny. I wonder if Meg likes to do puzzles. It's possible. *giggles*

That's the biggest freakin' Jaws EVER!!!!!! No wonder everyone checks it out! *L*
Apr. 19th, 2008 05:33 am (UTC)
Whoa - is that thing as big as I think it is? *googles Megalodon*I

Whoa. That's one big shark!

*is impressed*

And I can't blame anyone for looking at it closer, it's a great pic :-)
