Project 365, Day 38: Toy Voyagers

Day 38: Toy Voyagers, originally uploaded by Here Be Dragons.

I need a new hobby like I need a hole in the head. But when I saw cathepsut's post on Toy Voyagers last week, I had to check it out. Toy Voyagers are small toys that are sent out into the world, to journey around visiting people and places. Then, their journeys are photographed and journaled at the website. They're just like Geocaching travel bugs, only without the hassle of looking for a cache that will hold them.

Since this seems like a fun thing to do with Connor, I created an account that we can both use: Raptor&Rex (recycling our our old Geocaching handle, which I've always liked). Pictured above are our first three Toy Voyagers, who are just about ready to get sent out into the world to have some fun:

Fluffy the Owl

Cody Penguin

Stomp the T. rex

If you would like to host one of them, just comment here! They don't have an itinerary yet, and would love to visit LJ friends. (The only requirement would be to sign up for a free account at Toy Voyagers, so you could post a photo or two to the travelog page, and then be willing to send the TV along to the next host).

Next, I'm looking forward to hosting a few TVs from other people. We're signed up to host a cute little owl in the next couple of months. I'm sure if I look through the forums, I could find a couple of other toys who would love to come and visit with us. :) We would definitely show them a good time.

(They also have a Flickr group, and an LJ: lil_toyvoyager).

If I were to take the penguin (if someone else hasn't called dibs), what would you want me to do with it? Mail it back or mail it to someone else or something else entirely?

Nobody else has called dibs, so I'll send him to you if you want him! :) (Which reminds me, I don't have your new address yet; e-mail it to me, please)?

And after you've taken him on some cool adventures (or boring adventures - either is fine, hopefully with pictures), you'd send him along to the next person. But yeah, I think it's a lot like Geocaching without the drama. And WAH that you've never had a BookCrossing wild release caught? Because that is a lot of fun. I guess there are people who are wild releasing their Toy Voyagers . . . I'm not sure I'll want to do that. Somehow, it seems more likely to me that someone would pick up a book and keep it, more so than picking up a toy. Still, I might release a few that way at some point.

In any case, YES! I definitely think you should have Cody Penguin come to visit. :)

Nope. I don't think I recall any caught. Not by people who weren't already BCers. People around here just don't read. I think the city's average books read for the year was ONE. One book on average read by people who live in this city. I release a bunch of books while S looked on in disbelief, shaking his head and then nothing came of it. I feel like the books I released PROBABLY ended up in a trash can somewhere. :-p

I'll email you our new addy.

Oh and I signed up. I'm synergy. Amazing! No one had taken the name yet. YES. lol

Toy Voyagers
I sent you some PMs through the Toy Voyagers website, but I'm not sure if they email them to you or otherwise notify you that you have messages.

Anyway, I got the penguin in the mail yesterday, but am having problems "logging" it. Help!
