You have a T. rex? - 30 Days of Me, Day 02

Day 02 of "30 Days of Me:" My Favorite Movie

Another difficult category, because I like different movies for different reasons. Comedy, action, ones that make me laugh, ones that make me cry, etc. But when it comes down to it, the factor that trumps all others is special effects. I can get all those other emotional things from books, but only a movie can bring certain things to life visually: monsters, starship battles in outer space, a volcanic eruption that destroys Los Angeles . . . but most important of all . . . DINOSAURS!!!!!!!! Because nothing is cooler than dinosaurs. So, the film that gets the nod from me is:

"Jurassic Park"

Yes, the original one. In some ways, I actually like the second one, "Lost World," a little bit better, but there is a nostalgia factor that kicks in for me when I think of the original film. That scene, when they drive out in the jeep and see their first living dinosaur - a brachiosaur that is so impossibly huge it barely fits on the screen, and the expression on Dr. Sattler's face, and Dr. Grant falling to his knees. "You have a T. rex?" Oh yeah. Plus, any film that features dinosaurs or other animals eating people is usually high on my list. (We watched "The Ghost and the Darkness" last night, and I was quite amused. Nom nom nom nom nom). We (humans) have done so much to harm and destroy the natural world, I just can't help but get a kick out of watching nature get a little bit of revenge. Plus, even with the evolution (hah!) of special effects over the years, the dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" still look DAMN good. I could watch that movie again and again and again.

The entire list:

Day 02 - Your favorite movie

Tough category but I agree with the "Because nothing is cooler than dinosaurs" line...

And it's all a really personal choice...my fave? Across all genres? Wow... Just for LOL funny I'd have to say Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Philadelphia for effect. No Way Out for the ending.
Probably Saving Private Ryan for war dramas.

Guilty movie I can watch over and over? Operation Petticoat. Love 'The Great Race' as well. Original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Almost anything in the 70's by Mel Brooks.

But my fave is probably 'A Christmas Story'. (This may change if you asked me the question a day from now)...

Wonder if it will be on TV soon????

Merry Christmas!

"A Christmas Story?" Really? LOL! I can't STAND that movie! I know that makes me the oddball, or a curmudgeon, or something, but I know a bajilion people who love it and I have never been able to understand the appeal. :D

If it had dinosaurs, I would have liked it better. ;)

No dinosaurs in A Christmas Story..

They eat your eyes out.... Ha!

Really? It doesn't remind you of your childhood?

Try recalling...I triple dog dare ya!

(I could go on for days...there are just that many 'nutterfinger' quotes from the thing!)

Ok...stock in the egg nog and rum...TBS runs it 24 hours starting on Christmas Eve. Watch the showing after 5-6 egg nogs and 4 am...and I dare ya not to laugh!!! :)

Have a wonderful Christmas, Wendy.
